FANCY Self Care & Wellness Pop-up

We have an exciting opportunity for you to lead at our FANCY Self-Care Studio + Wellness Pop-Up during the Jackie Robinson YMCA Holiday Teen Giveaway! This will be a “Girls Only” space focused on creativity and self-care, with stations for painting, nail art, and vision boards. You’ll take the lead in setting up and hosting the stations, helping other girls enjoy a relaxing and empowering experience. We’ll also have 10 volunteers from SDG&E joining us to support your efforts. This is your opportunity to demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and creativity—while making a meaningful contribution to your community. Wear your FANCY Gear! Let’s make this a fun, inspiring, and memorable day of empowerment and self-care!

We’re thrilled to announce that the 2026 F.A.N.C.Y. Teen Girls Expo is set for Saturday, March 7th! This one-of-a-kind event brings together hundreds of girls from across San Diego for a full day of empowerment workshops, inspiring guest speakers, performances, and access to college, career, and wellness resources. Whether you’re a student, parent, educator, or community partner, you’re invited to be part of the movement to uplift and celebrate our future leaders! Founder & Executive Director
Dedicated nonprofit executive and career development specialist passionate about empowering girls of color through leadership, education, and economic opportunity. Born and raised in Southeastern San Diego, her lived experiences inspired her to found DETOUR Empowers.Â
Kimberly Lara
F.A.N.C.Y. Alumni
Program Coordinator
Kimberly began her journey as a high school volunteer and Ambassador. Now pursuing a veterinary degree in marine animal care, she mentors girls in the Leadership Academy and inspires the next generation of Latina scientists.
Angelique Patterson
Parent Liaison
Dedicated wife, mother of three, two-time FANCY mom, former cheer coach, community mentor, and owner of ANGLIQ Hair Collection, an online hair extension boutique.
Mjulela Nettles
 Parent Liason
As a 7 year FANCY parent, she operated an in home childcare that contracted with Navy Child Development Homes for 15 years. She now maintains and energizes the FANCY community as a project coordinator and parent liaison.

Education Liaison & Academic Support
As Education Liaison & Academic Support, Denice helps F.A.N.C.Y. girls strengthen study skills, set goals, and build confidence. They connect students with the resources and guidance needed to succeed academically while growing as leaders.
